IDDQD intellectual property claim wins Impact Case of the Year

IDDQD's database rights claim against Codeberry Limited, brought alongside Royal Mail, has been named an Impact Case for the United Kingdom at the Managing IP EMEA Awards 2026, held in London on 29 April.

Managing IP's Impact Case awards recognise the IP disputes that made, or are likely to make, a lasting mark on law and practice in a jurisdiction: decisions that clarified a rule, secured a rare remedy or ran a new argument. Winners are selected from court records and submissions from firms and their clients, so the award reflects how the wider IP profession read the case, not how the winners did.

IDDQD v Codeberry (2025) is the High Court claim against Codeberry Limited, trading as GetAddress.io, and its director. The court found the defendants breached Ideal Postcodes' terms and infringed its database rights, held the infringement "deliberate, reckless or couldn't care less" and awarded IDDQD additional damages beyond the ordinary measure.

Two things set the case apart. Royal Mail, the upstream licensor of the Postcode Address File, stood as co-claimant with its licensee, so the data supply chain enforced its rights end to end. And the additional damages finding gives database right, a right enforced far less often than patents or trade marks, visible teeth. Addleshaw Goddard and Pinsent Masons acted on the claim.
